Biography
YiMiao Shih (Taiwan, b. 1985) is a London-based interdisciplinary artist. Her work brings a sharp wit and keen eye for contemporary cultural and social issues to her creative process. She works across drawing, embroidery, wood and metal.
She describes her work as contemporary ‘embroidery-drawing’: she works with domestic sewing machine and hand-sewing to act as hand-drawn movement with stitched marks. Her stitched imagery portrays narratives composed with real world scenes and the fictional characters. The fictional characters explores the reality on her behalf as her imaginary friends. YiMiao’s work manifests keenness in enjoying one’s reality.
